We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Sonshine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rosa, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I discovered a new passion since I move to SC. I became an interpreter after advocating in the school district for Spanish speaking parents that needed representation. I been having a great time doing it and a great work/life balance. This gives me the freedom to choose when I work or not;besides my Mondays and Tuesdays that I’m committed to work for the ED at Prisma health.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have an almost 15 year old son on the Autism spectrum. When I moved to South Carolina it was a real shock that everything I was expecting for kids with disabilities was not as I expected. I had to get services and waivers on my own so I decided to become the voice of families with kids with disabilities that didn’t know how to navigate the system. This led me towards my interpreter career.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Best things to do here are the farmers market on Main Street Saturdays , a cultural shock going to flea market 1 and trying all different foods. The amazing beer gardens we have and a great walk through Main Street to find some local music and amazing food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am very grateful for my mentor Mr.Roberto Martinez and my Prisma team for allowing me to serve the Hispanic population with compassion and being the difference.
