Hi Laquinta & Laquetta, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balancing Work and Life as a New Entrepreneur
Achieving the perfect work-life balance is a common goal for many of us, but it can be particularly challenging for new entrepreneurs. Even after being in business for three years, it can be difficult to find the right balance. The beauty salon and studio industry, in particular, can be unpredictable at times, which adds to the challenge.
If someone asked us how we approach balance, we’d love to say that it’s our top priority and an essential aspect of our self-care routine. However, the truth is that we tend to prioritize our business needs over our own. But lately, we’ve been making progress and prioritizing self-care more often, and we’re thrilled about this positive change.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hair is my canvas, and I take great pleasure in bringing various hair designs and styles to life. My meticulous attention to detail and precision when styling my clients’ hair is what sets me apart from others in the industry. People often ask me how I reached this point in my life, and the answer is simple: it took a lot of hard work and dedication. However, I must also attribute my success to God and my support system. With the power of faith, there are no limits to what one can achieve.
Was this journey easy?” you might ask. The answer is no. But, as they say, nothing worth having ever comes easy. Whenever I’m faced with difficult challenges, I think back to my high school graduation motto: “The will to persevere determines tomorrow.” It’s a reminder that perseverance is key to achieving our goals, even on the toughest of days.
For me, prayer is the ultimate tool in tackling life’s obstacles. I believe that sharing my experiences can benefit others, and my biggest takeaway is that staying too comfortable can hinder progress. I choose to live outside my comfort zone, which motivates me to pursue new heights and achieve my goals. Additionally, it’s important not to dwell on those thing that we have no control over or can not change. Moving forward is key, and I have faith that things will fall into place as they should.
As an entrepreneur, I believe that continuous evolution is crucial to success. Although it can be challenging, venturing into unfamiliar territory is essential for growth. Recently, I made the decision to pivot my business and bring my twin on board. This has been one of the best choices I’ve ever made. Our clients love the added value of having us service them together, which frees up their time and enables us to help more people. This has been especially helpful given our lengthy waiting list.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you asked us to describe an ideal time with our best friend, I would say staying in and cooking our favorite meals, enjoying drinks, and laughing while reminiscing about the good times and joking about everything. While there are some great restaurants in the area, as country girls, we all adore home-cooked meals and seafood smothered in our mom’s famous butter sauce. Since we all live in the same town, we visit each other’s homes when we have some free time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We owe a debt of gratitude to our parents for imparting many of the valuable work habits and ethics that we hold dear. Their teachings pushed us to work hard and strive for our aspirations. What really resonated with us was their desire for us to surpass their own achievements. That inspired us to give our all, every day. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to our close friends, siblings, and past and current clients who have supported us throughout our journey.
In particular, we would like to give a special shoutout to our best friend, Jaquawna Terry. During a trying time when our 101-year-old grandmother and family were tragically taken from us, Jaquawna stepped in and managed the business for over a month. She is the epitome of a true friend.
