We had the good fortune of connecting with Roderick Fluellen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roderick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

Dating back to when I was a small kid, I’ve also dreamt of being an entrepreneur and having my own business. The hardest part was figuring out what type of business I wanted to start. Although I did not have any prior experience of being a business owner, I always thought and believed I was capable of starting and operating a successful business that not only focus on providing a solution to a need, but also focus on giving back to the community and providing great services at affordable prices. Thus, in the winter of 2021 I decided to take the leap of faith and pursue my dreams by converting one of my coping mechanisms (Cleaning) into a business, True Elite Cleaning Services, LLC.

But my desire to make a difference in our community didn’t stop at providing excellent residential and commercial cleaning services at affordable prices, that desire and passion drove me to established a 50(c)3 nonprofit, The 180 Community Center, which has the vision and mission to help decrease the juvenile crime rate in Columbia, South Carolina, while providing services to ensure youth (0-17) reach their full potential by collaborating with the community to provide opportunities for youth (0-17) to discover and develop their interests and talents by providing a wide range of services within a safe, supervised environment.
