We had the good fortune of connecting with Pylot Tea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pylot, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Authenticity is very important to me. Its easier to find your target audience when you are yourself. People will want to relate to you and connect with your music and the easiest way to do that is put yourself out there. When you put yourself out there, you can then begin to understand why people may be gravitating towards you and furthermore capitalize on that. Even if people don’t actually know you in real life, being yourself in your art and on social media may make people feel like they do. Building these relationships and connections will make people more invested you. Often times insight about the soul or story behind the art enhances the art. Its so easy to standout when you are yourself because there is only one of you!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a producer and recording artist from Columbia, South Carolina. Since I began making music, I have always been told I have my own sound, a nice voice and good lyrics. These elements are the foundation of a good song. With that being said, I put the least effort into sounding “different”, having a cool voice or being lyrical. Til this day I still get these compliments which lets me know I still sound distinct, my voice is pleasing to the ear and I actually being saying stuff that is connecting. I don’t feel inclined to overexert myself doing something that is working organically. Expertise kills creativity so you want to continue to have a beginner approach. Being a student leaves room for growth. Room for growth allows one to expand on their style and sound. Never stop experimenting because playing it safe aint always safe. Just make sure by the time you release it, it sounds polished. Without expansion people will get bored of the same thing. Wizmatic is my brand. Wizmatic means being an “automatic smart person” where wisdom is as natural as instinct, which is achieved by being mindful, aware, and present.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a home body and I don’t like to go out. Since I live in Atlanta, whenever my friends let me know they are coming to town they already know where they want to go. My favorite plans that my friends have when they come into town is going to concerts. This year I got to see Ashnikko and RL Grime, both at the Coca Cola Roxy. I always enjoyed hanging out and bar hopping on Edgewood. My favorite bar on Edgewood is Ourbar, easily. This was the first place I began performing at when I moved to Atlanta. I even got to meet Trouble, RIP. I recently shot a music video on Edgewood as well.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my engineer Bama (@29babybama)! I put together a project where I made all the beats, writing, vocal recordings and he mixed and mastered all the stems for me. His touched definitely enhanced and polished the sound I was going for while showing his style as well.
