We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Mann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, what do you want people to remember about you?
We strive to inspire. Music is our tool. No matter whether we are performing at a wedding ceremony or teaching a child to play the ukulele, we want to spark the imagination. As husband and wife, music fun lesson teachers/owners, and bandmates; we have a lot of music in our lives. Sharing our love of music with others is where we both find happiness. Performing live is very satisfying and in the moment, but it is through our private lesson we hope to make a difference that will last. We have both been teachers on and off for over 20 years. All the wonderful people we have met. I, Brandon, sometimes get to help a teenager find a new positive creative outlet and jam out to some “Nirvana”. Then, in the next lesson, I get the pleasure of teaching and playing blues with a retiree who always wanted to learn music but never had the time. Anna in the next room might be introducing a youth to Chopin’s music. Sometimes it becomes less about the music. Every student is a little different. And we are all the time learning from them.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I feel the world for a musician was quite different today, than it was when I was growing up. I feel there was more opportunity or possibility. Music is all more or less free now unless you are signed to a major label. We perform in a cover/wedding band called “Hipshack” which has been good stead work for a couple of years now. We continue to write and perform all original music in a group called “Sol Mriya”. My journey has led me to create a balance between the logical and the creative.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Mooresville is a little town north of Charlotte, NC. Our lessons and home are located right in the Mooresville downtown area. If you came to visit we would walk down to “Beer Lab” and grab a brew, then off to “Epic Chophouse” for a meal to remember, after that we would make our way to 202 Wines for some fantastic local music. If we couldn’t find our way home we would then go to the “Dive Bar”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would dedicate it to all the music teachers/musicians we have learned from, which would be too long to list. And Jessica Dehart of the Mooresville Art Guild who introduce us to you
