We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Garbarino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think many people would be shocked how much time goes into curating a 5-7 second video reel. From going to the actual restaurant and taking footage to editing and finding the best fitting music, it can take anywhere from 4-6 hours total!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Originally, I started my food Instagram to help promote small businesses during the pandemic, but as it started to gain some traction, I began to learn more about different cultures through food. I have a new admiration for food and how it connects us all. It took many hours of learning how to properly take footage and edit clips and tons of learning through trial and error, but through this, I’ve met so many new people and learned so many things. I’ve learned how to be more open to trying new things and experiencing new cultures. I want people to know the true power of food and how it can bring people together!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite restaurants in Columbia are Market on Main, Publico Bull Street, Motor Supply, and MOA so those would definitely need to be on the itinerary. During the day, Savage Craft or Steel Hands is the place to be and at night, Hendrix has a gorgeous rooftop you can sneak off to after enjoying a lovely dinner downstairs for some post-dinner cocktails!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my sister, Christina, who got me into this industry. She is a talented food blogger who introduced me to this world and taught me everything I know!
