We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanisha Owens Barrett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanisha, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When it comes to work life balance, I feel that it can be a bit tricky in entrepreneurship. One of the main reasons for wanting to become an entrepreneur for me and many others (especially those with kids at home) is to be able to have a balanced work life relationship. When I decided to go full-time in real estate and quit my 9-5, I was elated at the thought that I would be able to work when I wanted, be home with my little one whenever he was sick, and be able to relax and go on vacation whenever I wanted to. However, it didn’t quite work like that. Yes, I did have a lot more flexibility and didn’t have to answer to anyone. Yet, over time, as I gained more discipline and got into the groove of the entrepreneur life, I realised that a perfect work-life balance wasn’t feasible. At least not for me. This became especially true once I started juggling additional businesses along with my real estate career. There are times where I may work all day, forget to eat lunch, and I’m still working at 2am in the morning. During these times, I’m barely focusing on my family and in tune with what’s going on around me. However, there are other times where business may be slow and I feel like I have all of the time in the world for my family and to do all of the things I want to do. So, I’ve learned that there isn’t always going to be a perfect work life balance, and that’s okay. You just have to embrace both phases whenever they come because at the end of the day, it’s all about the journey, not the destination. The destination is constantly changing.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’m a real estate agent, mentor, author, and serial entrepreneur located in Greenville, SC. What sets me apart from others is my work ethic. Also, the fact that I’m focused and stay in my own lane. For me, I just want to be able to serve those around me and truly make a difference. I want the clients I encounter to say, “Tanisha really changed my life.” Overall, I’m just proud of myself for not giving up. Getting to where I am now has not been an easy journey and I’m still a work in progress. There has been a lot of self development and love that had to take place. I’ve learned several lessons along the way. When starting your own business, knowledge is power. I’ve learned that investing in oneself is a crucial key to success in any business. Also, I learned that having the right or wrong people around you during your periods of growth can either make you or break you. I just want the world to know that I love what I do. I love helping those around me achieve their home ownership goals or sell their homes and cash in on all of their well-deserved equity. With that being said, I also want everyone to know that I’m also more than just a great real estate agent. I’m a mom, wife, and so much more. If I can do it, so can you!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
BREAKFAST/BRUNCH SPOTS

Another Broken Egg on Woodruff Rd is my favorite breakfast/brunch space. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is inviting and pleasant, and the drinks and benyets are amazing!

First Watch is a healthy option for those looking for a great breakfast/brunch.

Eggs Up Grill is another great spot for breakfast or brunch.

PARKS

Falls Park is located downtown Greenville and gives breathtaking river fall views & so much more. Truly beautiful.

Unity Park is the perfect spot to bring the kids to play & let them run around. Plenty of slides and games for the kids, a splash pad, rock climbing, & food & drinks nearby.

FAMILY FUN

TopGolf is great fun for the entire family!

SpareTime is the perfect spot if you want to bowl, play arcade games, eat, drink, & so much more!

DATENIGHT

The Comedy Zone downtown Greenville is one of my favorite spots to go for date night. If you love comedy and a great time, then you’ll love going here!

LATE NIGHT SPOTS TO TRY

Blues Boulevard in downtown Greenville is a great spot if you are into jazz, good food, great drinks, and beautiful scenery.

Cigar Lounge in Mauldin is a go-to spot if you are looking for a late night spot to hang out, listen to good music, order delicious food with some of the best ox-tails I’ve ever eaten, and good drinks.

Vibez in Taylors is also a great spot to go if you are looking for a late night hang out spot with great music. They always host R&B night on Fridays.

Smokey Bluezz is another must-try spot for good music, food, and hookah. Most weekends, there is a LIVE band, as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, and foremost, I just thank God for this journey that I’m on. Next, I would like to thank my husband for all of his support and love. He has definitely pushed me to be better and to keep going, even in the difficult times, while still running his own home inspection business. Also, I would definitely like to give thanks to my mentor, Shaquale Williams. She gave me some insight and tips that helped me tremendously as I started my journey as a full-time entrepreneur. I would also like to shout out my favorite podcasts. There are EYL (Earn Your Leisure), Inside The Vault w/ Ash Cash, and David Shand’s Sleep Is 4 Suckers. Listening to these other amazing entrepreneurs tell their story and drop gems constantly, has definitely been a game changer for me! Also, I’m thankful and would like to shout out all of my family & friends who have been supportive of my business, used me for their services, referred me, shared a post, or even liked a post pertaining to my business! It doesn’t go unnoticed and goes a long way!
