We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Blanding and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started a business because you can’t pass a 9-5 down to your children. I wanted to create a brand that outlasts me and creates wealth for generations to come. I also believe women are as unique as our fingerprints. Most stores carry general sizes but as women we all have different shapes and sizes. We’re all custom made by the greatest designer of them all and we should have custom clothing that reflects that.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
First, I would like to say I went back and forth between choosing Artist/Creative or Business because what I do can fit into both categories. I ultimately chose Artist/Creative because before I made money being a designer I created and if I never made another dollar I will never stop creating. Fashion to me is art. It is a way I express myself without having to say a word. It was a challenge shifting my mindset to that of a business owner but I had to recognize that my work is worth the compensation for all the days, months and years I spent learning my craft.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard question because I’m usually the friend that travels to other cities to be taken out (lol). My favorite city is New York. There are endless things to do and places to see.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family for always being supportive throughout my journey. I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my son Kaden, who motivates me to be the best version of myself and makes me proud every single day.
