We had the good fortune of connecting with Wit Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wit, what do you attribute your success to?
It has difficult to set ourselves apart in an industry where everyone competes in a similar manner. For Blue Life Charters we decided to focus on a valuable portion of the experience. Instead of focusing on the aspect of sailing in the Charlestonm Harbor, we focus on the customer service experience while onboard.
At the heart of Blue Life Charters is a relentless pursuit of customer satisfaction. To offer our guests the ultimate “Below Deck” service by going beyond the ordinary, ensuring that every charter is a seamless blend of luxury, comfort, and adventure.
With a team of seasoned captains and crew, we navigate the waters with expertise and a deep love for sailing. But above all of this, they also offer their services in the form of the finest hospitality available while at sea. Our commitment to top-notch customer service, combined with a passion for maritime traditions, defines the Blue Life Charters experience.
Our clientele indulge in the ultimate luxury with our private charters for groups of 6 or less, offering a personalized journey through the captivating beauty of the Charleston Harbor. Each sail is crafted to exceed expectations, leaving our guests and friends, with lasting memories.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before starting up a new sailboat charter business in Charleston, SC I worked as a boat captain and scuba instructor in the Caribbean. Many people have seen the show “Below Deck” on TV. This was the type of work my wife and I did. We were never featured on the TV show but it helps to get an idea about what our employment roles were before Blue Life Charters came to be. While we were living in St. Thomas in the USVI we purchased a hurricane damaged vessel and spent 2 years rebuilding the boat. After the 2 year rebuild she was ready to sail! We chose to begin our company in Charleston, SC because we wanted to live closer to one of our families as we were planning to have children. Howwever, we also researched the market and realized the potential Charleston had with the charter industry in mind.
It was a huge risk opening up our doors as a new business in Charleston, SC when we did. Our first charter was in May 2020 during the height of COVID-19. To get our business started we had spent all of our finances and risked it all in the hopes that we would see results. We were on the edge of our seats when we went live on the internet as a new charter company within the area. That being said, it paid off. With quarantine coming to an end and people itching to get outdoors and enjoy themselves, we offered an escape and get a small piece of normalcy in such a strange time. We offer private charters within the Charleston Harbor so most people felt quite comfortable knowing that they were booking a tour with no strangers onboard.
We tried to be extremely sensitive to all types of people offering a balance between COVID-19 caution and outdoor relaxation. We would offer hand sanitizer to our guests and also offer to keep our masks during the charter while guests were allowed to take theirs off voluntarily. It made people feel comfortable and safe.
We also wanted to incorporate the same level of customer service that we had given in the Caribbean. It became our company niche; top-tier customer service above all else. It’s very easy for people to book a boat charter and get out on the water to enjoy the sites. Most people just enjoy being on a boat and being on the water. We wanted to maximize the experience by pampering our guests while at sea. We not only act as captain and crew, but also as bartender, wait staff, steward, and more to ensure our guests leave overjoyed and wanting more.
Overtime this has served us well as a new company and has also helpoed to set us apart from others in the industry. There have been many challenges along the way, both business and personal, but we continue to offer the same top level customer-service experience on each and every charter.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in the tourism industry we are always for our advice and local knowledge when it comes to off-the-water itineraries. I make it a personal goal to assist our guests with some of the best suggestions based upon their lifestyle choices. I pride myself on being able to read people in order to give them the best suggestions for the type of person they are. That being said, if a best friend were to come into town the following suggestions are some I would give in order to create an amazing 1-week vacation to Charleston, SC.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife and business partner, Mireia Clusella Font, is someone I could no have acheived what I have so far without her assistance. She has held my hand the entire way through our journey of opening and running our family business. She has also given extremely valuable insight that has helped to put our company on the map in Charleston and led to much success.
